Gratitude is not reserved for the mountaintop moments, the once-in-a-lifetime breakthroughs, or the picture-perfect celebrations. Gratitude lives in the ordinary. It whispers in the background of our lives, waiting to be noticed, felt, and embraced.
Sometimes, gratitude is discovered not in the grand gestures, but in a stranger’s kindness, a memory sparked by a familiar name, or a simple recommendation that makes a meal taste like more than just food.
This is the heart of our 10,000 Grateful Souls mission—to share gratitude worldwide and remind one another that every person we meet carries the potential to shift our perspective, open our hearts, and inspire us to live more fully alive.
Today, we want to share with you the story of a man named Robert.
Robert was not just a server at The Keg. He was more than the one who brought menus, food, and drinks to the table. On the surface, yes, he was “the guy taking care of us.” But when we opened ourselves to connection, he became something greater: a reflection of kindness, humility, and a reminder of family.
The first time we met Robert, his presence carried us back into memory. You see, Alex has an Uncle Robert who played a pivotal role in his upbringing. Uncle Robert was more than family—he was guidance, protection, and love during formative years. Though he’s no longer here, the memory of him carries weight and warmth.
So, when our server introduced himself as Robert, it stirred something within. It was as if life itself whispered, “Pay attention. There’s something here for you.”
That first night was simple: great recommendations, laughter, and conversation that felt natural. But there was already a thread of connection.
Weeks later, we found ourselves at The Keg again. Without asking, without planning, Robert was our server once more. Different table. Different section. Different night. Same Robert.
What are the chances?
Some call it coincidence. We call it providence.
This time, the experience went beyond food. Robert remembered us, and he opened up. Vulnerability poured out as he shared about his own journey—his struggles with depression, and how music became his way of healing, his medicine, his happiness.
It struck us deeply: here was a man, in the middle of a busy restaurant, carrying plates and taking orders, yet willing to share his heart with strangers. That is rare. That is sacred.
Robert reminded us of a timeless truth: when life feels heavy, when challenges press in, do what makes you happy. For him, it was music. For you, it may be painting, writing, playing with your children, going for a walk, or simply sitting in silence.
Happiness is not found in running from problems but in returning to the things that breathe life into your soul. Gratitude begins here—recognizing that the very activities that bring us joy are not distractions from life but invitations into it.
What stood out most was not just Robert’s words, but his aura. He was gentle. Humble. Soft-spoken yet confident in his own authenticity. He recommended desserts, yes—but more than that, he gave himself.
And isn’t that the essence of every grateful soul we meet? It’s not necessarily what they do, but who they are.
Robert reminded us of Uncle Robert. He reminded us of kindness. He reminded us that every soul we meet carries a story that can awaken something inside of us—if we are open enough to receive it.
So today, we give thanks for Robert.
We give thanks for the joy he shared with us.
We give thanks for the stories he told.
We give thanks for the vulnerability that turned a dinner into a memory we will carry.
And we give thanks for the ripple effect of one gentle soul who, without even realizing it, became part of a global mission to share gratitude worldwide.
Take a moment with us now. Wherever you are, pause. This is not just about Robert’s story. This is about you.
Sit comfortably. Breathe deeply. Relax your shoulders. Feel the air filling your lungs. With each breath, let gratitude rise in you—not for anything grand, but for the miracle of being alive in this very moment.
Bring awareness to your heartbeat. Quiet, steady, miraculous. Feel gratitude for the rhythm of life within you.
Now, notice your body. Fingers, toes, eyes, ears, skin. A body capable of movement, sensation, and expression. Let wonder swell in you.
When your mind drifts, return to the breath. Return to the heartbeat. Return to gratitude.
You are here. You are alive. And that, in itself, is extraordinary.
Robert reminded us that gratitude is not just an idea—it’s a practice. It’s a way of seeing. It’s a way of being.
So we ask you:
👉 Who is a “Robert” in your life—a person who, through kindness, humility, or vulnerability, reminded you to be grateful?
We invite you to share your story with us. Every comment, every reflection, every moment of gratitude brings us closer to the vision of 10,000 grateful souls connected by shared stories of presence and love.
Together, we are not just building a newsletter. We are building a movement.
With love and gratitude,
