It started with a sandwich.
Not a big moment, not a grand revelation — just an ordinary lunch in a quiet, old-school diner tucked away in downtown Toronto. The kind of place that feels like time slowed down just enough for you to breathe again.
I didn’t know the owner, Terry, then. I just knew the food tasted amazing, and I was grateful to be there. When I went to pay, I realized they didn’t take credit cards — only cash. I didn’t have any on me.
I told him I’d walk home, grab the money, and come back.
Without hesitation, Terry smiled and said, “Yeah, sure. I trust you.”
No paperwork. No worry. Just trust.
I walked home that day feeling something shift. His simple act cracked something open in me — and that small diner, that small moment, became a sacred mirror for something much greater.
When I returned to pay him, gratitude filled my chest. Not just gratitude for his kindness, but for what it revealed: that abundance flows wherever trust lives.
Later, I shared the story with Sackeria, and it opened something in both of us. We realized how many times in life we hold on tightly — to control, to fear, to lack — instead of trusting the flow.
That moment with Terry became more than a story; it became a lesson.
It showed us that gratitude isn’t something we practice after life works out — it’s what opens the door for life to work out.
We began to see every interaction differently. Each person, each meal, each moment became an invitation to see God moving — to see grace revealing itself through the simplest of exchanges.
And in that small diner, surrounded by the smell of home-cooked food, we found a reminder of who we truly are: souls discovering gratitude in the ordinary.
Over time, we learned that Terry and his sister had inherited the diner from their father. It was family-owned, passed down through generations — a living embodiment of love through service.
The food was always cooked with care — from BLTs to the unforgettable rice pudding with cinnamon on top, lovingly made every Monday by Chris. It wasn’t just dessert; it was presence in a bowl.
Every visit became a moment of community. We brought our family, including my dad, and each visit carried a sense of warmth and belonging.
I’ll never forget the moment my dad looked around the diner, soaking in the sound of plates clinking and the smell of breakfast on the grill. He told me how much it reminded him of his own childhood — of his father peeling potatoes in the kitchen, fast and precise, a rhythm of love in every motion.
He smiled, eyes soft, and said, “Thank you for bringing me here. This brings back such good memories.”
It was as if gratitude had reached across time to bring his memories back to life.
That’s the thing about gratitude — it reconnects us. It reminds us that the thread of love never breaks; it only waits for us to notice it again.
You wouldn’t expect to find a spiritual revelation over a plate of meatloaf or a slice of pie, but that’s what makes gratitude so beautiful — it shows up where you least expect it.
Terry once said, “Happiness is seeing life for what it is in all the little moments.”
Isn’t that powerful?
Because life truly is a series of little moments — the way someone smiles when you walk in, the sound of laughter from the kitchen, the trust in a stranger’s eyes. When we allow ourselves to notice these small miracles, we begin to see that life has been whispering gratitude all along.
When we think things are up, they might go down. When they go down, they’ll rise again. Gratitude doesn’t remove the waves — it teaches us to float.
And eventually, we realize we were never the waves at all.
We were the still ocean beneath them.
Let’s pause together, right here, right now.
Take a deep breath in through your nose.
Feel your shoulders soften as you exhale.
Bring awareness to your breath — the miracle that has carried you through every moment of your life. With each inhale, whisper silently: Thank you.
With each exhale, release what no longer needs to stay.
Now, bring your attention to your heart. Feel its rhythm — steady, strong, faithful. Let gratitude rise from within you for this sacred heartbeat that has never stopped showing up for you.
Let that gratitude expand to your body — your hands, your eyes, your voice, your very being. You are here, breathing, feeling, alive. That is enough to be grateful for.
When you drift away, simply come back — back to the breath, back to the heart, back to the miracle of being alive.
Moments like this — small, human, and profound — are the heartbeat behind our 10,000 Grateful Souls mission.
Our goal is simple: to share gratitude with 10,000 souls around the world.
Not as a number to achieve, but as a movement to remember.
Each story we tell, each conversation we share, is a ripple — a spark that reminds someone, somewhere, that life is still good, that kindness still exists, and that gratitude still transforms hearts.
Gratitude is not a practice of words. It’s a way of being.
When we live from gratitude, we naturally live from abundance. We notice beauty in the mundane, we trust the process, and we recognize that everything — even the challenges — are working together for good.
That’s what Discovered Souls is all about.
It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence.
It’s about rediscovering the divine light that already lives within each of us and letting that light illuminate the world.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
When was the last time you felt deep gratitude for something simple — something you might have otherwise overlooked?
It could be the person who held the door for you, the taste of your morning coffee, or even a moment of laughter shared with someone you love.
Gratitude doesn’t require grandeur — it requires attention.
We’d love to hear your story. Share it in the comments below or tag us @Discovered Souls and tell us what you’re grateful for today. Your words might just be the ripple that touches another heart.
Together, we are not just spreading gratitude — we are becoming it.
With love and gratitude,
Alex and Sackeria Dezan
